About us

We are sleepwalking towards the edge of a cliff – Mike Barrett

The climate crisis is the defining issue of our time. Looming ecological breakdown threatens everything that we as a society and as a species, value and hold close to our hearts. The science is clear, the solutions exist. What is lacking is the political will to implement them.

In August of 2018, Swedish Climate Activist Greta Thunberg began the Fridays for Future movement by striking from her school outside the Swedish Parliament Building. Now, thousands of youth join her every week, striking from school to protest the government’s lack of action on the climate crisis. The world is waking up.

Every week, dozens of Calgarian youth and other concerned citizens gather outside City Hall to protest. This crisis will affect everyone, and we must do everything in our power to stop it. Join us in acting for a better future.

Get involved

We are striking weekly again a little later than before

We strike every Friday at Calgary City Hall from 2:30-4:00 pm. Please read over our current rules and guidelines before attending a strike to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

Take Action!

We have compiled a list of ways to take climate action and fight social injustices on our take action page.

We have endorsed a document called the Calgary Green New Deal. This is a document that outlines what we are striking for, and some of the problems and solutions facing Calgary in this day. You can check it out here.

If you’re under 25 years of age and are interested in becoming more involved in intersectional climate activism in Calgary, we’d love to have you in our group! Depending on your interests, you can join our media committee, newsletter committee, or self-care committee! Message us on Instagram or send us an email and we can schedule a video call for you to meet a few members and get more familiar with what we do.
